Yoga Alliance (YA) is the global, independent member organization that advances the development and livelihood of yoga professionals and advocates for safety and accessibility in yoga. A related public charity, the Yoga Alliance Foundation (YAF), is an emerging field leader in yoga-based social impact dedicated to increasing access amongst populations that have traditionally been under-represented in yoga.
Together, these two organizations support yoga teachers to more fully grow into their role as leaders within their communities. YA supports yoga teachers’ growth as professionals. YAF develops vehicles for direct social impact, such as programs that enable professional teachers to serve within communities that have typically been excluded from yoga.
YA and YAF promote unity in yoga – so that all lineages, traditions and yoga organizations may thrive and all students may benefit from the gifts of yoga in the way that best suits their needs. YA and YAF do this work so that the gifts of yoga can be offered safely and effectively to all.
The Accountability Advisor will be responsible for guiding individuals through the grievance process from initial receipt to final sanctions imposed by Yoga Alliance. Grievances may include, for example, a claim that a yoga school is underperforming or a teacher has breeched their code of conduct. The Advisor must be able to remain neutral when handling a member grievance and understand that YA’s role is to elevate and evolve the profession of yoga while protecting YA’s members and the general public. The Advisor must be skilled and comfortable handling difficult and emotional situations with empathy, flexibility and creative problem solving. This individual must be able to manage a diverse set of concerns that arise from the yoga community regarding yoga professionals in multiple work settings, e.g. students and schools, employment disputes, student and teacher relationships.
