Yoga Alliance (YA) is a global, independent member organization that advances the development and livelihood of yoga professionals and advocates for safety and accessibility in yoga. A related public charity, the Yoga Alliance Foundation (YAF), is an emerging field leader in yoga-based social impact dedicated to increasing access to yoga for populations that have traditionally been under-served, underrepresented, and marginalized in/by it. We envision a world in which our collective well-being and human consciousness is elevated through equitable access to high-quality teaching and practice of yoga.


Together, these two organizations support yoga teachers to more fully grow into their role as leaders in their communities. YA supports yoga teachers’ growth as professionals. YAF develops vehicles for direct social impact, such as programs that enable those professional teachers to serve within communities that have typically been excluded from yoga.


YA and YAF (YA/F) were founded to promote unity in yoga – so that all lineages, traditions, and yoga organizations may thrive, and all students may benefit from the gifts of yoga in the way that suits their needs best. We do this work so that the gifts of yoga can be offered safely and effectively to all.

 

We are currently seeking a Staff Accountant (Temporary Contract) to join our team.

 


WHAT CAN BE EXPECTED

 

The contract Accounting Clerk reports to the VP of Finance and will be a member of the team responsible for all aspects of the general ledger, financial reporting, and other accounting activities. Your responsibilities will include ensuring that deadlines are met, that work is completed in a timely and accurate manner, and that we operate in compliance with applicable rules and regulations.


 

Scope of Work:


Please note this is a contract role, and hours and official scope of work will be determined before work begins.

 

Accounting and project work will include:


  • Assist the disbursement process for all external and internal vendors through the cloud disbursement system, Bill.com and Tallie.com. Processes include coding of bills, gathering and becoming familiar with support documents, and setting up payment methods.
  • Assist in contract profile maintenance through the customer relationship management system, Salesforce
  • Track, maintain and cross-check credit card transactions against monthly statements
  • Verify that employee expenses are accurate, reasonable, and within YA’s guidelines
  • Assist in the processing of member refunds
  • Obtain a thorough understanding of the general ledger and financial reporting structure
  • Adhere to the organization’s accounting policies and procedures
  • Liaise with other departments in a service-oriented role to assist with understanding policies and procedures related to financial transactions
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Shared Services team as needed

 

WHAT YOU’LL HAVE

 

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, or two years of experience in an accounting department environment
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting and finance rules and statements, particularly as they relate to 501(c)(6)s and 501(c)(3)s
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare accurate reports in a timely fashion
  • Ability to quickly identify issues and formulate approaches to problem resolution
  • Preferred knowledge of Bill.com, Tallie.com, Intacct and Salesforce
  • Proficient with Excel, PowerPoint, and other MS Office products
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to perform detailed-oriented and accurate work
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
